Mansfield turns back from blue to red

Steve Yemm gives his winning speech following the result announcement in the Civic Centre

Labour's Steve Yemm has become Mansfield's MP, beating Conservative Ben Bradley into second place.

Mr Yemm said on social media following the result,  'It is an immense honour and privilege to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Mansfield and Warsop. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.'

In the past Mansfield was considered a safe Labour seat but Ben Bradley turned Mansfield from Red to Blue in 2017.

The seat had been held by Labour since 1923.

This time around, Mr Yemm picked up 16.048 votes with Ben Bradley coming second with 12,563.

Ben Bradley lost his bid to become the East Midlands mayor in May but remains the leader of Nottinghamshire County Council.

The turn out in Mansfield was 55%
