An initiative to unite the business community in making Mansfield a better place to visit has been launched.
Town centre businesses, partners and stakeholders have been asked to join forces with Mansfield BID, Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Via East Midlands to help clean, preen, paint and light up Mansfield to improve the visitor experience.
The initiative has been spearheaded through a joint strategy by Mansfield BID and the district council in a shared commitment to tackle projects, improve the town centre environment, and make it as appealing as possible with additional cleansing and tidying.
Over the next year, four clean-up zones will be tackled in the town centre. The first one will focus on the Market Place and West Gate.
Businesses and interested parties are asked to meet in the Market Place on Wednesday 11 October at 9am to be part of a Day of Action supporting the town and fellow town centre businesses.
The clean-up will continue until 4pm.
The day of action will support a week of work to be carried out by Mansfield and Nottinghamshire Councils starting on Monday 9 October when more than 150 tasks will be completed around the Market Place and West Gate area.
Three other days of action will be held next year (2024) on Wednesday 13 March, Wednesday 12 June and Wednesday 16 October, targeting other town centre areas.
Executive Mayor of Mansfield Andy Abrahams said: “We are all in this together with a dedicated Clean Up Crew targeting areas of the town centre over the next 12 months to complete around 600 tasks.
“We are looking for an army of helpers to clean, preen and paint our town so that it is a cleaner, safer and more welcoming place to visit.
“The time is now for Mansfield; we have a lot of investment coming in. Times are changing and it is the right time to be calling on our shared resources to make Mansfield a better place.”
Jay Rowlinson, CEO of Mansfield BID, said: “The visitor economy is worth over £1.3m and employs nearly 1,400 full-time equivalent jobs, so it is our shared responsibility to make sure that more people want to come and spend time and money in our town centre.
“Getting the town centre looking well-loved and cared for is a fundamental building block to the future success and sustainability of Mansfield.
“The town centre it is the heart of our district and a place we are proud to call our home and a place we want people to enjoy.”
