Enjoy a marvellous March in Sherwood Forest

March promises to be a marvellous month at Sherwood Forest with an Easter craft fair, an enchanting fairytale trail and the return of archery beneath the mighty Major Oak.

It all starts though with the return of William de Tankerville and his Myths and Legends tour.

After a brief winter break, the Sheriff of Nottingham’s Master at Arms is donning his chainmail to relaunch his never-ending search for Robin Hood and the outlaws of Sherwood on Saturday 2nd March (1pm) and again on the 23rd (also 1pm).

On the evening of the 2nd at 7pm there’s also the second of our Stargazing Nights with the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society providing a fascinating insight of the night sky.

It’s all about mums on Sunday 10th, when Sherwood offers a Mother’s Day present which gives your mum the chance to create something unique that she can treasure forever.

Edwinstowe artist David Evans leads a Watercolour Painting Workshop (10.30am), teaching the technique of this artform, as well as helping participants to take inspiration from the surroundings of Sherwood.

The Sheriff of Nottingham is back to offer a guided storytelling tour to regale visitors with his ‘unbiased’ perspective of the legends of Sherwood on Saturday 17th (1pm).

We go on the trail of Sherwood’s woodpeckers on Saturday 23rd (9am).

This expert-led Woodpecker Walk leads participants to those parts of the forest which are favoured by great spotted, lesser spotted and green woodpeckers, the UK’s three resident woodpecker species, all of which are found here.

Booking is essential for all of the events listed above.

It’s an early Easter Weekend his year (Friday 29th March – Sunday 31st March) and it is filled with things to do at Sherwood, from have-a-go archery, with instruction and top tips from The Sherwood Outlaws, to the Artisans of Sherwood Craft Fair on Easter Sunday.

This is the second artisans fair, and makers and traders at the event will be selling the wonderful unique and unusual gifts they have created.

Talking of getting creative, artist Sarah Brabbin is back to lead an Easter clay creations workshop (Saturday 30th, 10.30am) where the aim will be for participants to make adorable bunny sculptures – ideal for the Easter weekend.

There’s a chance to take a tour with everyone’s favourite monk – the rather loud and always jolly Friar Tuck - on Easter Sunday(11am). Book a place via the www.visitsherwood.co.uk website or in the Visitor Centre on the day.

And throughout the holiday, families can try the Fairytale Trail. Set out in search of the enchanting and colourful fairy house doors among the ancient oak trees of Robin Hood’s forest and collect the clues to unravel a mystery.

Fairytale Trail booklets can be picked up from the Welcome Area for just £3.50 each – with a reward waiting back at the Visitor Centre for the intrepid adventurers when they return.
